About

EU’s industry is pushed to convert into a net-zero industry and accelerate the transition to climate neutrality. As an important manufacturing sector, the textile industry is at a crucial turning point, aiming for a sustainable production while rapidly adapting to consumer demand for smart functionalities. Additionally, functionalisation of textiles is mainly performed by using hazardous chemicals that pose a threat to environment and workers’ safety.

A change is forced by an increasing number of regulations with strict bans on those chemicals. Therefore, smart innovations are needed to help the textile industry eliminate the use of harmful chemicals and reduce its carbon  footprint.

The BioFibreLoop project will make the EU textile industry more sustainable with a focus on outdoor-, active- and workwear. Recyclable textiles with bio-inspired functionalisation will be produced from bio-based materials.
