Aachen-Denkendorf-Dresden International Textile Conference 2024

The Aachen-Denkendorf-Dresden International Textile Conference 2024 on 21-22 November 2024  was a benchmark for exploring the latest innovations and trends in the textile industry; offering a broad overview of crucial topics that are closely related to BioFibreLoop:

  • bio-based fibres
These sessions highlighted innovative materials such as man-made cellulosic fibres, PLA, PHAs, and PEF fibres produced through sustainable technologies. A strong focus was placed on recyclable and biodegradable fibres.
  • circular economy and recycling
The importance of implementing and optimising mechanical and chemical recycling processes was enphasised in several presentations, offering practical solutions for the production of increasingly sustainable textiles.
  • functionalisation and finishing
Innovative approaches for functionalising textile materials to impart new properties to textiles were reported at the conference, focusing on optimising processes to minimise the use of solvents, energy and harmful chemicals. The use of laser technologies can promote environmentally friendly functionalisation, as in BioFibreloop, where biomimetic functionalisation is achieved by embossing.

A perfect opportunity and platform to present BioFibreLoop:
Carlotta D’Aleo of our partner Next Technology Tecnotessile (NTT) cretead and presented a poster introducing BioFibreLoop and NTT’s role in the project. Which reactions did she receive?
“The aspect that interested the people the most was the biomimetic functionalisation, in which an attempt is made to maintain a performance equal to that of materials treated with traditional and hazardous chemicals.”
