International Symposium on Advanced Bionics

From 11th to 12th September 2024, BioFibreLoop “travelled” with Thomas Stegmaier from our partner DITF to China, to The International Symposium on Advanced Bionics (ISAB 2024) at Jilin University in Changchun, to be more exact.

This conference was about bionics, thereby covering many biomimetic topics: Wetting of surfaces, nanofibres, architecture, medical technology etc. 30 international guests from 7 countries as well as ca. 200 Chinese students and professors were part of this conference which was held in combination with the 14th plenary Meeting of ISO/TC 266 Biomimetics. This meeting intended to advance ISO standardization in the area of bionics.

A fitting surrounding for “spreading” the word of BioFibreLoop: Thomas Stegmaier who is also president of the International Society of Bionic Engineering which organised this event gave an overview of BioFibreLoop in his talk. In the discussion following his talk, the difficulties of producing textiles with oil repellent properties without using #PFAS chemicals (fluor polymers) came up. A world wide issue which BioFibreLoop will hopefully contribute to solve.
